The Forest Park Hotel in Platres is a destination in itself; a sleek unique Art Deco period hotel, set in glorious mountain surroundings. And with 40 cm’s of snow here in Troodos, it’s a perfect time to visit!

Once you arrive at the hotel, which is about an hour’s journey from Limassol, you’ll drive through the imposing gates and upto this rare relic of 1930s Cyprus. It was once the haunt of the great and the good and its guest list makes impressive reading: Telly Savalas, Indira Ghandi, Willy Brandt, Archbishop Makarios, Princess Margaret and most famously, Daphne du Maurier, who wrote her famous book Rebecca here in the mid 1930s.

The location is perfect for long rambles in the mountains or a walk down to the village for fresh trout, which is very reasonably priced.

There are also many Byzantine monasteries and churches on the mountain peaks, be sure to find time to visit the pottery works at Phini village, which is just 4kms away from the hotel.

I have really enjoyed my stay there, even though the Forest Park is a vintage hotel, it has modern amenities, relaxing atmosphere, and is exceptional value for money.
