French fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier managed to fly in and out of Cyprus in absolute incognito to spend the weekend at one of Limassol’s top hotels.
The 55-year-old flew to Cyprus last Friday, accompanied by a friend from Greece, to spend a long weekend at Le Meridien Limassol Spa and Resort. Sources said the designer had learned that the hotel boasted a superior spa and had wanted to try it out. During his three days on the island, Gaultier spent the majority of his time at the spa.
The hotel had been pre-warned of the Frenchman’s arrival, with strict instructions to staff not to mention his presence to anyone. The hotel has a stringent privacy policy regarding its guests.
“He kept a very low profile and was very discrete. No one recognised him because the hotel was full of Nicosians taking advantage of the long weekend and so they wouldn’t know what he looked like,” said a hotel guest, who had recognised the man, who has long been known as the ‘enfant terrible’ of French fashion.
