If you fancy setting your sights on some contemporary art this weekend then keep in mind that today is your last chance to go down to an interesting exhibition by local artist, Demosthenis Kolokasides at Kypriaki Gonia Gallery in Larnaca.

His new collection is somewhat more unusual than what you may be used to seeing on canvas, with the most interesting thing about his art being that he uses just about anything and everything he can get his hands on to express his thoughts and ideas.

Kolokasides was born in Athens and lived there throughout his childhood. After graduating from school, he went on to study in both Switzerland and the UK, where he graduated from the Faculty of Good Arts at Bristol University. Now living in Cyprus, he has decided to show his work locally.

Rather than painting a simple picture, it’s all a mix and match of items that draw his interest. From shells, fossils, pebbles, jewels, semi precious jems and pearls to small toys, ribbons and feathers, his creations constitute an open invitation into a highly fascinating world.

If you fancy more art gazing this weekend then you may be interested in heading down to the Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol this evening where Olivera Papathoma is exhibiting her work.

Born in Montenegro, Papathoma has lived in Cyprus for the last 14 years where she spends much of her time creating new and progressive paintings. Further to a string of solo and joint exhibitions worldwide, Olivera is now approaching her 9th solo exhibition to be held at the Four Seasons.

To mark the occasion, Chief of UN forces in Cyprus, Micheal Muler, will be opening the show. With the exhibition showing in the ballroom of the hotel, you can browse through 27 paintings that captivate the imagination. The opening will be followed by a ballet performance by Marilena Constandinou, whereas in the next room, you can enjoy orchestra music with with Christos Morfitis, Marinos Neophytou and Constandinos Paouros.
