A European Commission report made public yesterday makes an unprecedented reference to Turkish violations of Greek air space, sources in Brussels have said.

The document reportedly mentions “Greek complaints about continuing Turkish violations in the Aegean” which it describes, for the first time, as a “threat.”

The document is also said to include a more detailed reference to the problems of the Constantinopole based [today’s Instanbul] Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarchate in light of a recent Turkish court ruling disputing His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios’s ecclesiastical “ecumenical” status.

On Cyprus, the report makes a note of Ankara’s failure to honor a July 2006 agreement between Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

It also refers to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) which, it says, should avoid provocative moves such as naming Skopje’s airport after Greece’s historical hero Alexander the Great.
