Greek investments to Bulgaria have soared up 290% over the first quarter of the year, according to data published on Monday the Sofia News Agency reports.
The money reached EUR 109.4 M, and a share of 14.9% in all direct foreign investments to the country.
That makes Greece the fourth major investor to Bulgaria, following Austria, the UK, and Holland, the state BNR radio said.

Enjoy this traditional dish with an Ouzo or Retsina wine and with dancing the Sirtaki.
Makes for 8 persons
2 kg eggplant
2 kg potatoes
1 kg lean ground lamb (beef can be used)
4 onion, finely chopped
750g tomatoes
100g tomato paste
1 tsp dried Oregano
1tsp fresh chopped parsley
100g flour
100ml olive oil
1 litre milk
100g nutmeg
2 egg yolks
75g Kefalotiri cheese
3 aubergines
6 big cloves garlic
1 cinnamon stick
200ml white wine (optional)
Lightly fry an aubergine that is cut lengthwise into 0.5cm slices till brown, leave to drain. Do the same with the potato, except do not brown (make sure potatoes cooked are done on a lower heat).
While potatoes and aubergines are cooling and draining, start the mince.
Take a wide flat bottomed pot and let the oil get really hot and add mince and one cinnamon stick. Fry until mince meat starts sticking to the bottom of the pot and mince is almost crispy. This is a typical Greek method basically used for all dishes with mince.
If needed, add a little more oil, then add onion and garlic and fry till transparent. Then add chopped tomatoes and tomato paste with white wine (if needed a touch of stock). Let this simmer for about 5 minutes, add some nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste then stir in oregano and parsley, take off heat, put the pot at an angle and push the mince up against the side and let the oil run out.
For the bechamel sauce you can make a roux with your flour and oil but here is the easy way: put milk in a pot with salt and pepper and touch of nutmeg 1/2 bay leaf optional, mix flour and oil to a thick paste. Bring milk to a boil and add in flour and oil mix, stirring continuously until the bechamel is really thick. Remove from heat, keep stirring to let it cool before adding the egg yolk and cheese (if the bechamel is too hot the eggs will be cooked).
Note: season aubergines and potatoes when layering. You can either layer the baking pan with all the potato and aubergine and then put the mince on top, followed by the bechamel, and bake. Or you can layer it aubergine, potato and meat till all is used up and then finish with bechamel. When all this is done, bake in preheated oven at 180oC for about 45 minutes. Let it cool a bit and then cut into portions.

Greece wins two bronze medals in synchronized swimming’s combined and solo competitions at ongoing Europeans.
It was a successful weekend for the national team at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, with two bronze medals coming Greece’s way in synchronized swimming’s solo and combined events.
Sixteen-year-old Natalia Anthopoulou led the way on Saturday with a 93.900 score in the solo event’s final for the first of Greece’s two bronze medals. It was a repeat of her result in May at the European junior championships in Bonn. “This is a great success for me,” Anthopoulou said.
Natalia Ishchenko, a silver medalist in 2004 who qualified in first place in Wednesday’s free and technical routines, won the gold medal with a score of 98.400 points. Spain’s Gemma Mengual won silver with 97.700 points.
Greece’s other bronze medal was won in yesterday’s duet event with Eleftheria Ftouli and Evanthia Makriyianni ending third in the final with a 94.00-point performance. It was the first-ever medal for Greece in this category.
Ftouli, 25, announced her retirement from competition later last night.
Olympic and world champions Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova of Russia won their third consecutive European synchronized swimming duet title and their second of the day with a score of 98.800. Earlier, they had featured in the Russian octet which won the free combination title. Spain’s Mengual and Paola Tirados won silver in the duet with a 97.500 score.
Commenting on the medal triumph, Makriyianni admitted that she and her team partner, Ftouli, traveled to Budapest with a bronze medal as their objective.
Makriyianni, 20, joined the national team following the Athens Olympics two years ago in place of the outgoing Christina Thalassinidou, an exceptionally talented athlete hailing from the former Soviet Union, who helped spearhead synchronized swimming in Greece.
“We were expecting this [duet] medal. It was ripe and the capabilities were greater than they were in the solo event, because Natalia [Anthopoulou] is still young,” remarked the national team’s coach, Anastasia Guecheva, comparing Greece’s two medal-winning performances. “Until now, the road has been very tough, but this medal came at the right time and paves the way for more success.”

Art is about breaking down barriers. It gets people to feel, to think, to react. So when you come across life-sized cow sculptures that have been covered in mirrors or gumdrops, cows that have been painted with elaborate themes or transformed into something else entirely, you can’t help but stop and think about what it means. All your preconceived ideas go out the window. Suddenly people see that art can be fun and that art can be interesting to everyone, not just people who frequent museums.
For Art, For Charity, For Fun
CowParade is the world’s largest public art event. From Chicago and New York in 1999 and 2000 to Kansas City and Houston in 2001 and London in 2002, CowParade continues to evolve, not just in size, but in creativity and quality of art. While the cow sculptures remain the same, each city’s artists are challenged by the art from past events, inspired by the cultural influences of their respective cities, and moved by their own interpretation of the cow as an art object.
CowParade is not meant to be high art, however. It is first and foremost a public art exhibit that is accessible to everyone.
Most important, CowParade ultimately benefits charity. At the conclusion of each event, the cows are herded up and many are auctioned, with a substantial portion of the proceeds benefiting charity.

Barrueco at the Roman Conservatoire of Patras
One of the leading guitar performers in the world, Manuel Barrueco will give a unique performance in Patras along with the “Cuarteto Latinoamericano” on July 31st at the roman conservatoire.
The concert schedule includes work of Carlos Guastavino, Silvestre Revueltas, Michael Daugherty, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Astor Piazzolla.
One of the most recent albums of the famous Latin musician is titled ” i Cuba!” and has received rave notices from the national press. He has cooperated with well-known artists such as Plαcido Domingo, Steve Morse from Deep Purple and Andy Summers from The Police. He has also cooperated with classic composers such as Toru Takemitsu, Roberto Sierra, Steven Stucky, Arvo Part.
The “Cuarteto Latinoamericano”accompanying the adored latin guitar player, has been nominated for the Grammy awards twice and is considered to be one of the leading voices in classical Latin-American music. His group consists of the 3 Bitran brothers, Saul and Aron (violin) and Alvaro (chelo) along with Javier Montiel (viola).
“Othello” at the Herodio
One of Shakespeare´s most famous plays, “Othello”, will be presented in the Herodio by the “new world” theatre, at the 31st of July.
The tragic story of the jealous Othello who kills his beloved Desdemona will be acted by the known actors, Aimilios Heilakis, Gerasimos Genatas and Athina Maximou.
French art at the Benaki Museum
In view of the celebrations for the French National Day, the French Institute in Athens in collaboration with the Benaki Museum is hosting an exhibition in museum facilities on Peiraeus Street, titled “Profiles”, fifteen years of artistic creation in France. The exhibition will last until the 3rd of Serptember.
The exhibition includes 70 works of Art from 40 artists working in France, giving the visitors the opportunity to come into contact with modern creations reflecting all tendencies and styles.
«Profiles» at the Benaki museum
The French institute of Athens in collaboration with the Benaki museum is organizing an exhibition, titled “Profiles”, on September 3rd, regarding fifteen years of artistic creation in France.
With Philippe Piguet in charge and the works of 40 artists, the exhibition gives to the public the chance to contemporary creations inspired by public collections.

A new global internet campaign has recently been launched. A shortlist of the sites that could become the New Seven Wonders of the World was released and people from around the globe are now invited to vote for their favourites from a shortlist of 21 landmarks.
They include the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The only British entry is Stonehenge in Amesbury, Wiltshire, where substantial remnants of a monument erected between 3000BC and 1600BC still stand. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sydney Opera House and New York’s Statue of Liberty are also on the list, which has been put together following a five-year campaign by the New 7 Wonders Foundation.
The main aim of this campaign by the Swiss group is to alert the world to the destruction of man-made heritage. The winners will be announced on January 1, 2007. Members include the former director general of Unesco, Professor Federico Mayor, and several leading architects.
You can vote by calling a telephone voting number, and enter the code of your chosen wonder. New 7 Wonders is aiming to use the popular and commercial success of this project to generate funds for good causes. 50% of all net revenues generated will go to the New 7 Wonders Foundation, dedicated to the restoration of the world’s cultural treasures. According to the rules, the new Seven Wonders must be man-made, completed by 2000, and in an “acceptable” state of preservation.
